Announcing the 2026-2027 FIKA Supper Club Concert Series

A clink of a glass and a string of a bow; what could be more relaxing than dinner and a show?

The American Swedish Institute’s FIKA Supper Club Concert Series returns this year with six exciting concerts. From orchestral classical to folk to jazz, each concert offers a unique Scandinavian sound, with musicians local and global. Choose one or multiple concerts this coming fall, winter, and spring to experience a Nordic night of delight.

Friday, October 16, 2026: OK Factor and Jaerv

• Two folk ensembles from the US and Sweden

• ASI Returner, played at ASI’s 2026 Midwinter Folk Festival

 

 

Friday, November 6, 2026: Lyra Baroque Orchestra

–Full Baroque ensemble

–Music from the Nordic canon

–2^nd appearance at FIKA Supper Club

 

 

Friday, January 22, 2027: Chi Westfelt

–Swedish-Vietnamese singer and composer, performed at Charlie Parker Jazz Festival, Copenhagen Jazz Festival, and the Inaugural John Coltrane Jazz Festival

–Fresh voice in jazz with a unique blues and soul influence

–ASI Debut

 

Friday, March 12, 2027: Wingra Wind Quintet

–University of Wisconsin-Madison’s faculty ensemble featuring flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, and bassoon

–Nordic classical music

–One of the longest-running quintets in the nation

 

Friday, April 23, 2027: Camerata Nordica

–Sweden’s leading chamber orchestra

–A reputation for its distinctive performance style, standing performances, a conductor-less approach, and occasional reliance on memory rather than scores.

–ASI Debut

 

Saturday, May 22, 2027: Helena Hallberg

–Swedish singer-songwriter and folk artist, described as “Joni Mitchell meets ABBA”

–ASI Returner

 

 

With extended supper hours, dinner at FIKA is available beginning at 4 pm. Guests have enjoyed FIKA’s full menu and bar, before stepping into Larson Hall at 7 pm for the concert. Advanced registration is recommended for these popular evenings, and table reservation requests can be directed to [email protected]. Admission: $35 ($30 ASI member), $40 walk-up.

Music is an important part of modern and historical culture, shaping and adding to intercultural exchange and appreciation across the world. It connects and builds lasting sentiments about love, language, and relationships. American folk music, for example, developed out of fusion of different styles and traditions that had been brought by migrants, European settlers, and enslaved peoples, becoming an important method of cultural connection.

Similarly, at the American Swedish Institute, we hope to honor and explore both traditional and contemporary Scandinavian and Scandinavian-American music, continuing the long tradition of sharing stories through song.
