Field Trip

The American Swedish Institute (ASI) welcomes K–12 school and homeschool groups to participate in educational museum tours. ASI’s educators work with classroom leaders, customizing each experience to meet class needs. Available to book on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9 am and 2 pm.

Field trip organizers must provide a deposit for each field trip booking. This deposit is equal to 50% of the total cost of the field trip. Please call (612) 870-3345 to submit a deposit once your field trip has been booked and confirmed.

Plan a magical field trip experience at ASI. Choose one or more activities:

Students and chaperones will be led on a guided tour of the Turnblad Mansion or the current exhibition. 

Time: 30–60 minutes 

Pricing: $10 per student 

Ages: Any grade 

Students will learn about Swedish immigration or Swedish celebrations throughout the year through educational artifacts. 

Time: 30–60 minutes 

Pricing: $15 per student 

Ages: 3rd grade and older 

Students will learn about Swedish slöjd, or handcraft, and walk away with a finished project. Handcraft projects could include one of the following: 

  • Needled felted picture or ornament 
  • Painted Dala horses 
  • Paper quilled ornaments or cards 

Time: 30–60 minutes depending on the age of the group 

Pricing: $20 per student 

Age: Any grade 

Groups can combine any of the three activities above for their field trip. ASI can accommodate twenty students per activity. Adults will not participate in handcraft programs. If you decide to combine activities, the pricing is below:  

  • Tour + artifact analysis: $20 per student 
  • Artifact analysis + handcraft: $30 per student  
  • Tour + handcraft: $30
  • Tour + artifact analysis + handcraft: $35 per student  
  • Additional adults: $15 per adult  

Please note these booking details:

  • Field trips can be scheduled on Tuesdays or Thursdays between 9 am and 2 pm.
  • Field trips must be booked a minimum of three weeks in advance.
  • Groups must be a minimum of ten students and one chaperone. The maximum number of students ASI can accommodate is sixty.
  • One chaperone is admitted for free for every ten students. Additional chaperones are $15 per person.
  • The final number of participants must be confirmed with ASI staff at least two weeks in advance for experiences that include handcraft workshops and at least one week in advance for all other activities.

  • Groups are welcome to bring lunches and snacks to eat at ASI. An ASI staff person will lead groups to a designated space to eat. Outside food and beverages are not permitted at FIKA Café or outdoor courtyard tables.
