ASI Announces 2026 Phillips Neighborhood Fund Recipient

MINNEAPOLIS – The American Swedish Institute awarded its 2026 ASI Phillips Neighborhood Fund grant, which provides general operating support to service-oriented organizations in the Phillips neighborhood. ASI awarded the $10,000 grant to the Native American Community Development Institute (NACDI). 

Native American Community Development Institute (NACDI): 

The Native American Community Development Institute (NACDI) was founded in 2007 through a community-led process to address the needs of the Urban Native American community in the Twin Cities. NACDI’s mission is to amplify the Native American community’s vision for a vibrant future. They drive community-led systems change through an integrated model of civic engagement, Indigenous arts and culture, food sovereignty, and community development. Core programs—Make Voting A Tradition (MVAT), All My Relations Arts (AMRA), and Four Sisters Food Sovereignty—build collective power, strengthen cultural connection, and expand access to resources for Native people. NACDI focuses on serving the Urban Native American community in Minneapolis’ American Indian Cultural Corridor (AICC) district and the East Phillips neighborhood and will use the grant to advance its mission. 

About the Phillips Neighborhood Fund: 

The American Swedish Institute’s Phillips Neighborhood Fund began in 2020 in response to the impact of both the COVID-19 pandemic and the murder of George Floyd. In the years since, community needs have evolved. The ASI Phillips Neighborhood Fund is now an annual grant that provides operating support to a nonprofit organization in the Phillips neighborhood of Minneapolis, including Phillips West, East Phillips, Midtown Phillips, and Ventura Village.  More than $70,000 in awards have been given since the Fund’s establishment in June 2020. Grant funds are intended to support organizations aligned with ASI’s mission and values.       

ASI has built longstanding community relationships through collaborative programs, including the Pippi Project at Andersen and Bancroft elementary schools, PICA Head Start graduations, and the Story Swap program with Wellstone International High School.  ASI also works closely with our Phillips West Neighborhood Organization and other community partners to continue building bridges for understanding and partnership.
