The ASI Lucia Choir is a seasonal youth choir honoring Saint Lucia Day. A time-honored tradition, the Lucia Choir brings light to the darkest time of year through Lucia in the Mansion and public performances as part of ASI’s holiday season. Lucia in the Mansion, which is open exclusively to ASI Members, is held in the Turnblad Mansion’s Grand Hall and is one of the ASI community’s most cherished holiday events.
Participation in the Lucia Choir is open to all K-12 youth who are ASI members. Knowledge of the Swedish language is not necessary. Participants are separated into two choirs based on age. Choir 1 is K-4th grade. Choir 2 is 5th-12th grade.
As we enter this season of joy and celebration of the light of Lucia, the American Swedish Institute is thrilled to host the first fully in-person Lucia Choir rehearsals and concerts since 2019. In our continued efforts to provide a safe and healthy environment for the choir members and staff of Lucia Choir, we are adopting and instituting a mask and vaccination policy to help maintain a safe environment for singing. Choir members are required to be fully vaccinated and wear masks in Paulson Hall during every rehearsal and during the Lucia Celebration Concert and the Lucia in the Mansion concert. We encourage every choir member to self-check for COVID-19 symptoms before each time we meet in person.
Registration opens September 30 for past participants and October 10 for new participants.
Eligibility:
To be eligible for participation in Lucia Choir, participants and/or their families must meet the following requirements:
Registration: Lucia Choir has a maximum of 75 participants each year. Participants from previous years (2019, 2020 or 2021) are invited to register for this year’s choir first.
September 30 Registration opens for participants of 2019, 2020 or 2021 choirs
October 31 Special role application deadline
October 10 New participant registration opens

Please call the ASI Admissions Desk (612-871-4907) on the registration open date and a Visitor Services Associate will help you sign up.
Each year, ASI selects three individuals to act as leaders within the Lucia Choir. The special roles are Lucia, and two Attendants and/or Head Star Kids.
The individuals selected for these roles will lead the rest of the choir in procession and demonstrate leadership during rehearsals.
Preference given to applicants who can show current or past participation in ASI, Lucia Choir, or other Swedish or Swedish-American programs.
Eligibility for Special Roles:
Applicants for special roles must also register for general choir participation.
