Participate in Lucia Choir

To be eligible for participation in Lucia Choir, participants and/or their families must meet the following requirements:

• Active ASI Basic Family Membership
• $25 registration fee per child 
• 1 volunteer shift per family 
• Participants must be enrolled in grades K–12

• Signed attendance agreement form (following registration)

Each year, ASI selects three individuals to act as leaders within the Lucia Choir. The special roles are Lucia and two Attendants. The individuals selected for these roles will lead the rest of the choir in procession and demonstrate leadership during rehearsals.

Preference is given to applicants who can show current or past participation in ASI, Lucia Choir, or other Swedish and Swedish-American programs.

Eligibility criteria:  

• 16–18 years old  
• Show a demonstrated interest in Sweden and Swedish-American culture
• Understanding of the spirit of Lucia.  
• Strong establishment in the American Swedish Institute 

• Must be members of the ASI Lucia Choir 
• Available for all rehearsals and performances  

To apply for special roles:  

Submit a typed one-page essay that includes the following: 

• Education and academic honors 

• Community service  
• Activities (hobbies, school activities, etc.) and accomplishments
• Interest in Swedish culture 
• Involvement at the American Swedish Institute 

• What does ASI Lucia Choir and Saint Lucia Day mean to you? 
• Participant’s name, address, phone number, and contact information for parent or guardian

How to Register for Lucia Choir:

Once registration opens, registration for Lucia Choir may only be made by phone. To register, call 612-871-4907. Registration closes once the choir is full.

Registration Dates:

Mon, September 23 at 10 am: Choir registration opens for returning families.

Thu, October 3 at 10 am: Choir registration opens for new families.

Tue, October 31 at 8 am: Applications for Special Roles are due.

Rehearsal Schedule:

Sundays, November 10, 17, 24, & December 1: Choir 1: 1–1:45 pm. Choir 2: 2–3 pm.

Sun, December 8: Lucia in the Mansion Dress Rehearsal. 4–6 pm.

Wed, December 11. Lucia Celebration Dress Rehearsal. 5:20–7 pm.

Performance Schedule:

Fri, December 13. Lucia in the Mansion Concert. 6:30pm.

Sun, December 15. Lucia Celebration Concerts. Concert 1 at 1pm. Concert 2 at 2pm.
