Tis the season to embrace the fantastical. Traverse the castle into a magical realm led by Tomte and all his friends. It’s time to hear his side of the story. The American Swedish Institute’s annual Holiday Experience takes visitors on a journey that explores the Legends of Winter. Explore the Turnblad Mansion with Tomte to discover iconic holiday characters, each with their own spectacular space.
A visit to ASI over the holiday season provides a glimpse into Tomte’s enchanted world. The Turnblad Mansion transforms into a winter wonderland sharing details from Tomte’s life from his perspective, and guests will meet his friends along the way. Discover the legends surrounding Tomte’s animal companions as well as Lucia, Krampas, Julbok, Santa, reindeer, and so much more. ASI’s Holiday Exhibition is an exploration of the winter season and holiday icons and Nordic folklore creatures.
ASI is the Twin Cities’ premiere holiday destination for all visitors to truly feel the holiday spirit. Discover handmade gifts from local artists at Julmarknad, one of the region’s largest handcraft markets with over 60 vendors, live music, festive foods, and activities for all ages. Celebrate the Winter Solstice with outdoor fires, glogg, and a reindeer sighting at the Twin Cities’ largest Winter Solstice Celebration. Dare friends to try lutfisk at a Lutfisk Dinner and enjoy the magic and candlelight of the Lucia Celebration Concert.
ASI’s winter programs create a full season of craft workshops, cooking classes, food demos, and language classes to inspire new skills and create the perfect gifts. The ASI Museum Store’s Jul Shop, open from November 8 to January 4, features a curated selection of handmade and imported items, with a special Member Appreciation Sale during the first opening week. Visit FIKA Café for an exceptional holiday menu featuring seasonal flavors, alongside its famous meatballs, specialty cookies, and remarkable baked goods.
Create a magical holiday experience with family and friends this season at ASI’s 75th annual Holiday Experience.
Tomte Tales: Legends of Winter is hosted by the American Swedish Institute with support from ASI’s members and donors. The exhibition’s Presenting Sponsor is Security Bank & Trust Co. Minnesota artist activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
