In a relatively short period between the end of the 19th century and the early-mid 20th century, Sweden went from a state of near-absolute monarchy to a widely recognized bastion of social democracy. How did that happen? From the Garden Crisis of 1914 to the clarification of the “People’s Home welfare state ideology in 1928, and the adoption of the modern Swedish constitution in 1974, this lecture by Alexander Fooy will cover the development of the modern Swedish political system and how the currents driving modern Swedish politics have their roots in these now-long-ago social trends.
