This class runs Fri-Sun, October 2-4, 9 am-4 pm each day.
Join Kirsi Manni, a textile expert and teacher from Dalarna, Sweden, for a weekend of applique and embroidery in the traditional Leksand folk costume style. Each students will choose a pattern for a decorative pocket, which is suitable for adding to a folk costume or adapting as a purse, or a masma sewing kit pouch. Kirsi will present historic items from ASI’s material collections and her own personal collection to set in context the rich history or folk costume embellishment in Sweden. Students will practice Laska-herringbone stitch, wool felt applique, and couching techniques as they work on their projects.
Kirsi Manni is the owner of Art&Craft Sweden and lives in Siljansäs, Dalarna. Over one week this fall, Kirsi will bring her expertise in Leksand style folk dress to ASI. Kirsi is also offering an introductory level embroidery class for beginners and a talk about her personal experience with folk costume traditions.
