Wet Felted Sculptural Moomin

Learn to create your own hand-felted Moomin character inspired by Tove Jansson’s beloved stories in a day-long class. In this class, Elise Kyllo will teach students the classic wet felting techniques to form a 100% wool stuffed creature that is both playful and durable.

Wet felting is a process that involves unspun wool, water, soap, and agitation to create a fabric. In this class, we will use the specific sculptural technique of resist felting to create a hollow form that will become the body of your mythical creature.

After forming the body, students will stuff it with dry wool to give it dimension and character. Finally, students will complete their Moomin friend by adding felted facial features and embellishments.

This wet felting class requires good hand strength and the ability to stand for extended periods. It’s suitable for ages 18+ or registrants aged 11-17 accompanied by a registered adult. A $25 materials fee is payable to Elise Kyllo in class and covers all materials needed for this project. Students are also encouraged to bring 2-3 old bath towels, a bag to take home wet projects in, and an apron.
