Join contemporary folk artist Pieper Fleck Bloomquist to hear about her 2023 trip to Sweden to dig deeper into bonadsmålning, painted narrative murals common in Sothern Sweden in the 18th and 19th centuries. Bloomquist received an American Scandinavian Foundation fellowship to journey back to Sweden to speak at a bonadsmålning symposium and create a commissioned painting at the Unnaryd Bonadsmuseum in Halland. Whether you are interested in historical folk painting, connections between contemporary Swedish and American arts communities, or simply looking for an interesting lens on travel through Sweden, Pieper will have much to share.
