Carve a Veggie

Try your hand at carving by making a couple of sweet miniature wooden vegetables with carving instructor Maeve. This beginner-level course will introduce students to the tradition of Scandinavian-style flat-plane carving, including basic knife grips and carving techniques. Several designs will be offered; students can expect to complete at least two or three of them in class. Related topics, such as acquiring and preparing tools and materials and the best approaches for painting and finishing, will be covered throughout the class. The finished veg will be perfect for playtime, display, or even making a statement necklace.

Prerequisites:

  • Physical ability: Woodcarving requires good hand strength and dexterity, for example, opening a jam jar.
  • Skill level: Open to all skill levels.
  • Ages: Suitable for ages 16+ or 11-15 accompanied by a registered adult.

Tools and Materials:

A $25 materials fee is payable to the instructor in class.
