Told with hand carved marionettes and a transforming cardboard box, The Box King is a family show about the foibles of a forgetful king. What happens when the king cannot remember who anyone is any longer? Is putting everything and everyone into boxes the way to keep things organized, or is there more to an organized kingdom?
These two kingdoms are joined together through the marriage of their leaders. But, what happens when the king loses the queen and cannot remember who anyone is any longer? Is putting everything and everyone into boxes the way to keep things organized, or is there more to an organized kingdom?
Seth Eberle is a puppet artist focused on using hand-carved marionettes to tell stories for family audiences. His performances have been seen around the Twin Cities and nationally, including at the Detroit Institute of Art and the Great Plains Regional Puppet Festival in Iowa. Seth works in Minneapolis with hinterhands puppet company bringing puppets for family audiences in a monthly puppet series and using puppets to tell stories with an intergenerational queer storytelling program.
This show was conceived, designed, and construced by Seth Eberle. Directed by Kurt Hunter. Performed by Seth Eberle and Kallie Melvin.
This production was funded by The Jim Henson Foundation through a Family Grant.
