Bauhaus Inspired Block Printed Textiles

Try a new craft while creating textiles in the Bauhaus Design tradition! The German Bauhaus Design Movement (1919-1933) was one of the most important aesthetic influences on mid-century Scandinavian design. Breaking with the past’s romantic and ornate designs, it put simple graphic lines and bold colors at the forefront of art, architecture, and home goods.

In this evening class, students will work alongside Katrina Ulrich, a textile artist trained in block printing in the Indian tradition. Katrina has assembled her own collection of hand-carved wooden blocks, bright-colored ink, and several textile options for this cross-cultural project, which blends Indian printing techniques, German colors and shapes, and Scandinavian mid-century design influence. No previous experience is necessary to create fun and unique textiles in this class!
