Vladimir Yarish

Vladimir Yarish is an awarded birch bark weaver from Veliky Novgorod, Russia. Educated as a musician, Vladimir graduated from the St. Petersburg State University of Culture and Arts and began birch bark basket weaving in 1984 after being taught by a friend. Since then he has continued to weave and study the uses and history of birch bark, and has published a number of literary works and received prizes for his art. He has taught numerous times in the United States, including classes at ASI, the National Basketry Organization, and North House Folk School.
