This class runs Friday-Sunday, January 9–11, 9 am-4 pm daily. Capture the magic of painting watercolor figures in this three-day all-levels workshop with artist Tara Sweeney. Students will work from a photo reference to create a three-layer monochromatic value study and then a full-color painting using a split-primary limited palette. By analyzing light, shadow, proportion, and balance, students will learn to simplify the basic shapes and values of the human form. Following along with the instructor, step-by-step, students will practice foundational skills for painting watercolor figures. Skill level: This all levels class does not require previous watercolor and drawing experience. However, those who have painted a three-layer value study and explored a split primary palette will find it helpful.

Ages: Suitable for ages 18+. Students provide their own materials for this class; click here to download the materials list here.

The class includes preparatory work sent by the instructor ahead of class, lots of relevant examples and individualized feedback from the instructor, including final project follow up as desired.
