Viking-Style Posament Bracelets

Learn how to make an elegant posament bracelet out of pewter thread and leather, inspired by Viking era artifacts. Freehand braided or knotted wire “posaments” decorated and trimmed Viking textiles; this class will complete a bracelet inspired by the designs of embellishments found in 9th and 10th century burial sites. Students will practice creating either a “Josephine” or triangular series of braided knots on nylon cord before progressing to constructing a length of knots with coiled pewter thread (96% tin and 4% silver). Finally, students will sew the pewter thread posaments onto a softened leather strip to fashion a bracelet finished with a pewter button. Skill level: Open to all skill levels. Ages: Suitable for ages 18+. A $125 materials fee is due to the instructor Liz Bucheit in class and covers all required materials.
