This class runs Friday-Sunday, February 27-March 1, 2026, 10 am–5 pm each day.
Explore traditional Swedish painting techniques through this unique three-day class. Swedish bonadsmålning flourished in southern Sweden during the 18th and 19th centuries, when it was used to decorate the walls of modest country homes. Working on cloth or paper with homemade egg temperas, painters illustrated allegorical stories that blended Biblical themes, Swedish history, and contemporary rural life. With the guidance of folk-art painter Pieper Fleck Bloomquist, students will craft their own egg yolk-based paints and create an 8” x 10” folk art painting to take home.
This class encourages students to create their own patterns, but templates are also available, making this project appropriate for all skill levels. A short video will also be shared with students to view ahead of class.
