This class runs Saturday, May 9 and Sunday, May 10 from 10 am-5 pm both days.

Get your hands on a knife and fresh wood, and start spoon carving. This two-day class walks students through carving a spoon from a green wood blank to its finished form. Suitable for students of all levels, though prior experience with green woodcarving, such as the Intro to Green Woodcarving class, is recommended. This class gives students an overview of spoon carving, starting with prepared blanks cut from fresh wood. Students will practice basic carving grips before shaping the final spoon blanks with sloyd and hook knives. Throughout the class, discussions and demos will cover design inspiration and considerations, materials acquisition, tool maintenance, and safe carving techniques. Before leaving, students will discuss drying and finishing options.

Additional information:

  • Advanced registration required.
