Welcome spring with a natural dyeing project using birch bark. Textile artist Riley Kleve will guide the class through the basic elements of creating a dye bath from a natural material and using it with protein-based fibers. Students will then hand-dye wool yarn in the dye bath, discuss options for creating variegated colors, and head home with soft pink-colored yarn for a future project.

Additional Information

  • A $25 materials fee is due to the class instructor. Wear clothing you don’t mind getting messy, or bring an apron and a plastic bag to bring home wet projects. There may be some downtime during the dyeing process, so students may want to bring a small handwork project from home to occupy themselves.
  • Skill level: Open to all skill levels.
  • Ages: Suitable for ages 18+, or registrants ages 14–17 alongside a registered adult.
