Dive into the beautiful yet utilitarian world of band weaving with Scandinavian weaver, textile artist, and craft instructor, Caroline Feyling. Handwoven bands can be so much more than trim or decoration. Bands woven on the band heddle date back hundreds of years in Scandinavia. Historically they were used for everything from hair ties to rope, and even horse reins! In this one day intensive, students will learn to backstrap weave plain weave bands on a band heddle loom. Each student will weave a short sample band along with a longer band between 36-72″ long. By the end of this class, students will be able to design, set up, and weave plain weave bands independently. This portable and beginner friendly technique is an excellent first foray into the world of weaving.

Tools and Materials:

  • A $30 materials fee covers materials for two bands. All tools and materials will be provided with the option to purchase the tools from the instructor at the end of the class.
  • Optionally, bring magnification (i.e., readers), a cushion to sit on, and a document holder or pattern holder for easy pattern reading.
