Learn to carve Minnesota’s state bird, the loon! In this intergenerational class, youth and adult pairs each bring a beautiful loon to life, surely to remind them of summers on Minnesota’s lakes. Students will work alongside instructor Matt Bruch to transform a simple basswood block into a carved and painted loon. Using traditional Scandinavian flat plane carving techniques, we will practice several knife grips to safely and effectively shape the wood, then learn techniques for applying paint and a finish. Additional blanks will be available for purchase.

This class will plan to take place outside. In case of inclement weather, the class will be held in the Studio Classroom.
