Join us for a night of traditions, new and old, as horn player Oskar Stenmark takes the stage with his latest project, In My Grandmother’s Footsteps. Originally from Gothenburg, Sweden, Oskar invites audiences on a journey where centuries of music and stories come together—mainly thanks to his grandmother, Elsie Börjes. Elsie was a folk musician who toured the U.S. (including Minneapolis) with a group of fiddlers from Rättvik in 1956, and now, 70 years later, the music is still alive through her grandson.

Oskar will team up with local fiddlers to present a truly magical night of music! With a musical lineage tracing back 10 generations, Oskar grounds himself in the Swedish folk traditions of his ancestors while exploring new musical ideas like jazz in his new home of New York City. This special concert will also feature visuals from Oskar’s family history including his grandmother’s tour to the U.S. in 1956. Don’t miss this collision of past and present Swedish tradition!

Enjoy extended dinner hours in FIKA Café starting at 4 pm, then step into Larson Hall for a musical treat beginning at 7 pm. Cash bar will be available all night. To reserve your table for FIKA Café’s dinner hour, call (612) 524-5108 or email [email protected].
