Get started on a hand-embroidered linen sampler that celebrates color and expressive stitching to delightful effect! This class offers an overview of common free-hand embroidery stitches with an emphasis on exploring combinations of stitches in various circular motifs. Students will begin by preparing the linen sampler with colorful circle patches. Then, the instructor Judy will review basic stitches, including the straight stitch, lazy daisy stitch, chain stitch, and French knots. Students will practice combining these basic stitches into various motifs to create a sampler with their unique colors and designs. While students should not expect to finish the sampler in class, they will head home with everything they need to finish—making it a perfect mobile project for summer stitching at home or on the move. The completed 12” x 16” sampler can be used as a small pillow cover, table runner, or bag front. Discussion of sourcing materials, finishing embroidered work, and other sources of inspiration for patterns will round out this day-long class.
