SUMMARY:Nordic Handcraft Workshop: Swedish Kurbits (Dalmålning) Painting with Pieper Fleck Bloomquist
DESCRIPTION:This class meets for two days Saturday–Sunday\, January 16–17\, from 10 am–5 pm both days. \n\nExplore the art of kurbits in this weekend long Swedish folk painting class. \nDiscover the colorful world of the kurbits in this fun\, weekend-long Swedish folk painting workshop inspired by the decorated farmhouses of Dalarna\, Sweden. Students will learn to paint the iconic “kurbit” motif of flowing flowers\, leaves\, and whimsical designs that made this folk tradition famous. Alongside painting\, the class will discuss the history of dalmålning and its deep connection to Swedish heritage. \nUsing acrylics on canvas\, each student will practice simple traditional motifs and techniques that easily translate to watercolor\, markers\, oils\, and more. Templates and patterns are available for anyone who wants extra guidance\, making this class welcoming and enjoyable for all skill levels. \nTools and Materials: \n\nA $20 materials fee paid to the instructor covers all necessary supplies.\nStudents are additionally invited to bring their favorite supplies for acrylic painting such as brushes\, water pans\, wet palette\, and/or a sketchbook. Recommended brush sizes include #2\, #4\, and #6 round\, and #3/0\, #1 liner.\nAn introductory video will be provided and should be watched before class.\n\n  \nPrerequisites: \n\nAdvanced registration required.\nAges: Suitable for ages 14+. A discounted ticket price for students ages 14-17 is available at checkout.\nSkill level: This class is suitable for all experience levels.

DESCRIPTION:Create a needle-felted wool snowman with felter Jen Newberg in this intergenerational Nordic Handcraft workshop. \nChill out by making tiny wool snowman perfect for imaginative play or for display in this intergenerational needle felting class. Felter Jen Newburg will lead kids and their special adults through the process of shaping and decorating a tiny snowman complete with face and accessories using the magical technique of needle felting. Using a needle to poke colorful wool into place is a fun and easy craft for all ages!
