DESCRIPTION:In a relatively short space of time between the end of the 19th century to the early-mid 20th century\, Sweden went from a state of near-absolute monarchy to a widely recognized bastion of social democracy… how did that happen? From the Garden Crisis of 1914 to the clarification of the People’s Home welfare state ideology in 1928\, and the adoption of the modern Swedish constitution in 1974\, this lecture by Alexander Fooy will cover the development of the modern Swedish political system and how the currents driving modern Swedish politics have their roots in these now long-ago social trends. SUMMARY:Nordic Handcraft Workshop: Creative Darning and Mending with Riley Kleve
DESCRIPTION:Add some new life to well-loved clothing using basic darning and mending techniques! Students can bring some of their own clothes to darn and mend using tools and supplies provided by instructor Riley Kleve. Students will learn to select materials\, use various tools\, and care for mended and darned clothing in class. Students will leave with new techniques for beautiful mends that add color\, pattern\, and durability to their clothing. \nAdditional information: \n\nAdvanced registration required.\nA $6 materials fee is payable to the instructor and covers all mending materials and tools used in class. Students may also purchase a darning disc to take home for an additional $20.\n\nPrerequisites: \n\nSkill level: Previous hand sewing experience will allow students to make the most progress in class\, but all levels of experience are welcome.\nAges: Suitable for ages 16+. A discounted ticket price for students ages 16-17 is available at checkout.
