SUMMARY:Baby Jams
DESCRIPTION:Join us for Baby Jams\, a fun and educational experience for babies and their caregivers co-presented with McPhail Center for Music and ASI educators. \nCaregivers and infants up to 18 months discover the magic of ASI’s holiday exhibition\, Remember When\, through music\, movement\, and shared exploration. During this special Baby Jams experience\, ASI Educator Lindsey Tscherne and MacPhail Center for Music Educator Cari Gregerson will guide caregivers and babies through the exhibition with songs\, sounds\, and playful activities designed for little ones. With front-facing carriers\, caregivers bring babies to eye level with artwork and installations\, creating opportunities for close looking\, connection\, and discovery. Together\, caregivers and infants explore the holiday exhibition in a new way while enjoying joyful musical moments that encourage curiosity and engagement. Baby Jams invites infants and their important grown-ups to experience ASI through music\, art\, and meaningful time together. Each session offers a unique opportunity to slow down\, connect\, and discover the museum side by side. \nAdditional information: \n\nAdmission is included with registration\, allowing participants to explore the current exhibition and the Benson Family Gallery after the program.\nAdvanced registration is required.\nPlease register by the Friday before the program.\nASI may cancel the program if registration is low.\nStrollers are not permitted in the exhibition spaces.\nASI educators encourage caregivers to carry infants in front-facing carriers so babies can view artwork and installations at eye level.\nFood\, beverages\, and chewing gum are not permitted in exhibition spaces.

SUMMARY:Skinnfell – The Printed Sheepskin Workshop with Becky Utecht and Sue Flanders
DESCRIPTION:Learn about the history of Norwegian Skinnfell\, embellished sheepskins\, while block printing and finishing a tanned sheepskin with instructors Becky Utecht and Sue Flanders. \nJoin Becky Utecht and Sue Flanders for a day long introduction to the Norwegian art of skinnfell\, an embellished sheepskin. Skinnfell are sheepskins with stitched and finished edges\, printed with wood block stamps. They are often sewn together into a warm coverlet\, but in this introductory class we will use one sheepskin to create a chair pad\, bench cover\, or wall hanging. Students will learn about the history of this unique craft while cutting\, printing and finishing a provided tanned sheepskin to create a finished piece of about 22″ by 32″. Special attention will be given to the use of the instructors’ Norwegian print blocks and the symbolism of different patterns meant to bring good will to the user. Students will apply a “bridal” edging\, which will be completed after class. This class offers a broad overview to this unique craft\, which can be applied in many decorative and useful applications for future projects. \nPrerequisites: \n\nAdvanced registration required.\nAges: This workshop welcomes students 16+. A discounted tuition is available for students ages 16-17 at checkout.\nSkill level: This workshop is open to all experience levels.\nPhysical: Please note that to complete this project\, students need good hand strength and flexibility\, as sewing leather is difficult hand work.\n\n  \nTools and Materials: \n\nA $115 materials fee covers one full sized tanned sheepskin\, use of the print blocks and paint\, and other necessary supplies.\nStudents are also encouraged to bring the following tools if possible: a large\, clear plastic quilting ruler; a small pair of very sharp scissors; several sturdy metal clips; a leather thimble; and a small jewelry pliers.
