SUMMARY:Intro to Rosemaling Workshop with Tara Austin
DESCRIPTION:Try out the basic brushstrokes of Gudbrandsdal-style rosemaling in this afternoon long class! This class is perfect for students who have never tried rosemaling before but want to learn about the basic techniques and materials of traditional Norwegian folk painting. Working on tracing paper and a small wooden plaque\, students will practice the fundamentals while learning about the history of this specific rosemaling style with folk artist Tara Austin. \nAdditional information: \n\nAn additional session of this workshop is offered on Fri\, October 9. Learn more\nAdvanced registration required.\nA $20 materials fee is paid to the instructor in class and covers all materials\, including resources to further explore this folk art at home.\n\n  \nPrerequisites: \n\nSkill level: This workshop is open to all and is especially geared towards beginners.\nAges: Suitable for ages 18+ or ages 14-17 are welcome to register alongside an accompanying adult. SUMMARY:Fall City Foraging Workshop with Maria Wesserle
DESCRIPTION:You don’t need to trek into the wilderness to harvest wild edibles—there are options right here in the city! Join Maria Wesserle of Four Season Foraging to explore the urban environment in search of wild foods. The class will focus on easy-to-identify seasonal fruit and nuts\, starting right on ASI’s campus. Participants will also discuss other wild edibles found along the way and the cultural heritage of foraging in Sweden and other Scandinavian countries. \n  \nAdditional information:\n\nAdvanced registration required.\n\n\nThis class heads outside in wet weather\, but in the case of severe weather\, the class will run inside as a lecture.\n\n\n  \nPrerequisites:\n\nPhysical ability: Students should wear clothing appropriate for the weather (rain or shine!) and be prepared to stand for long periods and walk up to 10 city blocks.\nSkill level: Open to all skill levels.\nAges: Suitable for ages 18+\, or 11-17 with an adult. DESCRIPTION:Slöjd Studio is a monthly program for older elementary students. Participants explore new tools\, techniques\, and materials that prepare them for a lifelong love of handcraft. Use wet felting to create wool luminaries! Instructor Anna Ruhland will teach young makers wet felting techniques to create beautiful luminaries to light up the longer autumn and winter nights. \nAdditional information: \n\nThis is a drop-off program.
