These engaging day camps invite curious kids to explore Swedish traditions through food\, music\, movement\, language\, and art. Each camp offers a unique experience led by educators and artists who bring learning to life. If desired\, one adult per camper may use a shared space at ASI during camp hours. Campers must bring their own lunch and water bottles. Campers ages 6–10 step into the world of Pippi Longstocking\, experiencing her playful spirit through songs\, snacks\, and silly adventures. \nRegistration closes on July 16 (three weeks before camp start date).

Strand is Executive Director of the Nordic Center at UC Berkeley\, and the book stems from a Scandinavian corporate social responsibility course he launched two decades ago at the University of Minnesota. More info about how to choose your amount is available at checkout.\n\n  \nAbout the author \nDr. Robert Strand is the founding Executive Director of the Nordic Center at UC Berkeley\, Executive Director of the Center for Responsible Business\, and a Lecturer at the Berkeley Haas School of Business. He is also an Associate Professor at the Copenhagen Business School. His research and teaching focus on comparing U.S. and Nordic approaches to sustainable business and examining American and Nordic varieties of capitalism with the aim of contributing to realizing sustainable capitalism. Robert teaches the suite of courses “Sustainable Capitalism in the Nordics?” which leverage his book Nordic Capitalism: Lessons for Realizing Sustainability Capitalism (Cambridge University Press\, 2026)\, available to read open access (free) at https://bit.ly/3MSvrOp. \nBefore joining Berkeley Haas in 2014\, Robert was an Assistant Professor at the Copenhagen Business School in Denmark\, following a decade in Corporate America\, where he held various roles in manufacturing\, supply chain\, marketing\, strategy\, and investor relations at IBM and Boston Scientific. He holds a Ph.D. in corporate social responsibility from the Copenhagen Business School\, an MBA in international business from the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management\, and a B.S. in industrial engineering from the University of Wisconsin. He was a U.S. Fulbright Scholar to Norway hosted at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). \nWith his wife\, Sarah\, he is the proud parent of two wonderful children\, Jonas and Mikkel. He values a good sense of humor and kindness above all else\, and when that obituary is eventually written\, Robert hopes those qualities could potentially be said about him.

DESCRIPTION:Join us on the first Thursday of every month for Open Nordic Jam! \n\nHave you ever wanted to play music in the historic Turnblad Mansion? Now’s your chance! Bring your nyckelharpa\, hardingfele\, fiddle\, or any acoustic instrument to ASI’s Open Nordic Jam. This jam is open to musicians of all levels who want to learn and play Nordic folk music. Bring your friends or plan to make new ones here! \nMinnesota has long been known for its rich music scenes—in part due to the many immigrant diasporas that have established themselves in the area. From Nisswa-stämman to the Nordic Roots festival\, to the countless house jams across the state\, Nordic folk music is an important part of Minnesota’s musical identity. Whether you’re a master fiddler or want to learn more about folk music\, this monthly gathering is for you! \nThis jam is facilitated by ASI staff\, but tunes are selected each time by musicians in the room. We will play standards and originals inspired by the folk traditions of Sweden\, Norway\, Finland\, Denmark\, and Iceland. While many musicians may bring traditional instruments\, all acoustic instrumentalists are welcome to participate. If you do not play an instrument\, you can still attend if you respectfully observe and listen. Dancing is encouraged but not required—see you there! No advanced registration required.

This gathering aims to bring people together\, foster new friendships\, and strengthen connections within the local Nordic community. \nHosted by Karvel Schram\, an Icelandic native and former resident of Denmark\, along with a group of friends\, the event was created to connect people from across all the Nordic countries\, celebrate shared heritage\, and learn from one another’s unique traditions and experiences. Gathering will also help engage younger generations who may not yet be actively involved in Nordic organizations and create an accessible entry point into the broader community in the Twin Cities. \nEnjoy music\, the lawn game Kubb\, and conversation in a relaxed setting in ASI’s courtyard. While anyone age 21 and older is welcome\, the event is primarily focused on building community among adults in their mid-20s to mid-30s. \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Try out the art of lucet braiding\, using a simple wooden hand tool to create colorful and durable cords with craft artist Riley Kleve. From the Viking era up till industrialization\, lucet cords were ubiquitous for holding\, tying\, and embellishing all types of clothing and objects. Square\, firm\, and flexible\, lucet braids are perfect for using as lanyards\, shoelaces\, replacing a cord on a bag or hoodie\, and anything else you can think up. \nAdditional information: \n\nMaterials and tools: A $10 materials fee is payable to the instructor and covers all materials and tools use in class. Students will use provided wooden looms in class\, but options for sourcing looms independently will also be discussed.\nPhysical Ability: Please note\, braiding requires motor skills in two hands.\nAges: Suitable for ages 16+.
