The time when syrener–that is, lilacs–bloom is as much beloved in Sweden as in Minnesota. It tends to happen a little later in Sweden–late May or early June. Jag tycker att doften av syren är världens ljuvligaste. I think the scent of lilacs is the sweetest scent in the world.

This class runs Wednesday and Thursday, August 3-4, 10 am-5 pm both days.
What body of water is nearest to your heart? What do people do there? Capture the magic of figures at rest, work or play at the water’s edge in a two-day watercolor workshop, linked thematically to ASI’s 2022 exhibition, The Morning Dip. Students will practice seeing the structure of light, shadow, perspective and depth as they simplify shapes and values for figures and their surroundings. Artist and instructor Tara Sweeney’s demos and guided exercises will introduce a three-layer, limited palette approach to transform each student’s reference photo into a painting with glowing color, wet-into-wet mingling, transparent layering, intentional lost and found edges, and lively brushwork. All levels welcome; suitable for adults.
This class requires students to provide their own materials. Please see the materials list.
