Workshop: Tunnel Books

If you have caught the paper cutting bug with ASI’s featured exhibition, Paper Dialogues: The Dragon and Our Stories, a tunnel book is a visually stunning next step that can nevertheless be tackled in an afternoon. Tunnel books are sculptural artist’s books that create a miniature world or abstract composition in multiple layers; reminiscent of a stage, a series of separate pages are bound in layers to create a distinct foreground, midground and background. After looking at examples of other artist’s books, students will work along with book artist Yuka Petz to combine cut paper, drawing, collage, and book arts to create their own multi-dimensional worlds at home. This class welcomes all levels of students, no book making or paper cutting experience necessary! Open to ages 17+.

This is a live virtual class taught over Zoom. Students need a strong internet connection and a device with video capabilities.

This class requires students to provide their own materials. A $5 materials fee (included) also covers a pdf handout and template shared the week before class. Please see the materials list below.
