This class meets Wednesdays, 7–9 pm, September 14–November 16.
Build your spoon carving skills in this 10-week course with master woodworker Paul Linden. This class uses spoons and other small projects to explore intermediate and advanced techniques of woodworking in the spirit of slöjd, the Swedish handcraft tradition of creating beautiful and functional objects. Students will build skills with traditional hand tools and green wood, and also cover tool maintenance/sharpening, acquiring materials, and design and embellishment.
Students should have some experience working with hand tools, carving knives and wood, and must have good hand strength and flexibility to be successful in this class – if you can open a pickle jar, you can carve a spoon! A $50 materials fee paid to the instructor the first week covers all tools and materials for the entire course.
