Workshop: Mixed Berry Jam

Capture summer’s bounty in a beautiful mixed berry jam with preserving expert Heidi Skoog, owner of St. Paul-based Serious Jams. Whether you pick up fresh berries from a farmers market or U-Pick, or choose to have Heidi assemble a bevy of berries (raspberries, blueberries, currents and more are options at this time of year in Minnesota) in a kit for you to pick up at ASI, you’ll go to work at making a simple berry jam in your own kitchen and then jar it up to save for keeping or gifting. This is the perfect class if you’ve ever wanted to start preserving at home and are looking for someone to (virtually) check in over your shoulder.

This is a live virtual class taught over Zoom. Students need a strong internet connection and a device with video capabilities.

This class offers an optional kit for $20 (available for pick up at ASI only), or students may source everything they need themselves. Each kit includes berries, sugar and jars. Students must also provide a wide stockpot or deep saucepan, heat proof spatula, measuring cups and kitchen scale. Kits will be available for pick up at the American Swedish Institute on Friday, July 23 and Saturday, July 24 before class. Registration for this kit based-class closes one week in advance on July 16.
