Workshop: Bake Your Own Semlor

This class meets online from 10:30 am-12 pm and 1-2:30 pm central time.

Once the provenance of a single holy day, Fat Tuesday, Swedes now enjoy semlor from Christmas until Easter. These sweet, yeasted buns are perfumed with cardamom, stuffed with marzipan, filled with whipped cream, and dusted with powdered sugar, a real treat. Join Erin for a baking day from your own kitchen – we’ll start by mixing and kneading our dough, then step away from our devices while the yeast does its work. After lunch we return to shape, bake, fill, and decorate our semlor. We’ll finish with a fika in true Swedish style.

This is a live virtual class taught over Zoom. Students need a strong internet connection and a device with video capabilities.

This is a ‘bake-along’ class intended for students to participate from home. A recipe packet will be shared one week in advance so students can make sure they have the ingredients on hand.
