This class runs for three Thursdays, October 10, 17, and 24 from 1-3pm CDT each session.
Embroidery is a beautiful way to make an everyday object feel special. Inspired by traditional Nordic embroidery designs, explore the world of wool-on-wool embroidery with a variety of stitches and learn how to transform the fabric and liner into a miniature purse, along with attaching the kiss clasp like a pro. All the steps and techniques featured in this course are great skills to learn if you are considering making a full-scale traditional purse in the future; and we’ll explore beautiful examples from across history and regions as we go. Finished coin purses will be approximately 4.5”x 4” wide. Students will have the option to select from a variety of wool fabric colors for their project kit and use embroidery yarns from the instructor’s own sheep. This class is a great way to explore wool-on-wool embroidery for both beginners and those with some embroidery experience. Suitable for ages 16+.
This is a live virtual class taught over Zoom. Students need a strong internet connection and a device with video capabilities. Additional instructional pdfs are also provided by the instructor.
Kits ($45 value) are included in the class fee. The class kit includes prepared wool fabric marked with the project design, lining fabric, clasps, embroidery needles and yarn from the instructor’s own sheep. Students must also provide a pair of fabric scissors, sharp thread scissors, sewing needle and thread for assembly in harmonious color(s) to their fabric color, thread in contrasting color to attach clasp, fabric pins or clips. Providing your own 8-inch embroidery hoop is optional, if desired.
Kits will be available for pick up at the American Swedish Institute starting October 3rd or can be shipped for an additional $10 fee. Registration for this kit-based class closes September 30th or whenever sold out.
