Winter Inspired Gelatin Printing

Discover a simple printing technique that will inspire your creativity. Gelatin printing utilizes food-grade gelatin to create a printing plate, producing a one-of-a-kind print known as a monotype. In this evening class, students will experiment with multiple techniques for working with this material, from painting ink directly on its surface to using stencils, leaves, and natural objects, or items like lace or fabric. Kim Gordon will prepare the gelatin printing plates in advance, then guide students through the process and help them create their unique pieces of art inspired by found items from winter’s outdoors and beyond. This experimental and experiential process requires no printmaking background to be successful, only a love for the creative process.
