Learn how to make an elegant posament bracelet out of pewter thread and leather, inspired by Viking era artifacts. Freehand braided or knotted wire “posaments” decorated and trimmed Viking textiles; this class will complete a bracelet inspired by the designs of embellishments found in 9th and 10th century burial sites. Students will practice creating either a “Josephine” or triangular series of braided knots on nylon cord before progressing to constructing a length of knots with coiled pewter thread (96% tin and 4% silver). Finally, students will sew the pewter thread posaments onto a softened leather strip to fashion a bracelet finished with a pewter button.
