Västergötland Winter Night Cuffs

Knit a pair of festive and warm beaded-edge reversible cuffs for the Jul season. Taking inspiration from a two-color pattern design found in a vintage knitted glove from Västergötland, Sweden, Wendy J. Johnson will lead students through the knitting of this inspired cuff. A discussion of Västergötland’s role in textile culture, a province renowned for its strong history in the Swedish textile industry, will also be covered.

Prerequisites:

Skill level: Intermediate knitters. Students must have basic knitting skills, with experience casting on, the knit and purl stitches, and binding off, to be successful with this project.

Ages: Suitable for ages 18+.

Tools & Materials:

A $35 materials fee is payable to the instructor in class. This covers two balls of Nordic yarn (enough to make four cuffs), beads, and the pattern. Students should bring a set of 4 double-pointed needles in size 2 (for loose knitters) or size 3 or 4 (for tight knitters), a U.S. size 10 or size 12 crochet hook, and magnification (e.g., reading glasses) if needed.
