Minneapolis and Uppsala Sister City Banquet

Registration opens in July.

The American Swedish Institute (ASI) and the City of Minneapolis are celebrating 25 years of Sister City friendship with Uppsala, Sweden. ASI is proud to sponsor this longstanding partnership and has enjoyed hosting previous delegations.

To mark this milestone, a 14-member delegation from Uppsala will visit Minneapolis in mid-September for a week of events and cultural exchange.

Led by Uppsala County Governor Stefan Attefall, Uppsala University Vice-Chancellor Anders Hagfeldt, and Mayor Erik Pelling, the delegation will engage with city officials, university representatives, and community leaders to exchange ideas on sustainable urban development, the green transition, and social cohesion in the context of migration. The delegation will also share plans for Uppsala University’s 550th anniversary in 2027.

Joining the delegation will be Urban Ahlin, Sweden’s Ambassador to the United States, whose visit to Minneapolis marks his first official trip to Minnesota since assuming the post in 2022.

A celebratory banquet in honor of this bilateral friendship will be held at ASI on the evening of Tuesday, September 16. This special event will feature a performance by a men’s choir from Västgöta Nation—one of Uppsala University’s historic student societies—along with the ASI Men’s Choir and the Scandinavian folk ensemble Tjärnblom. Guests will enjoy a $110 per plate, elegant four-course dinner with wine pairings and champagne.
