The Eight Seasons of the Sámi Calendar

Above the Arctic Circle, Sámi people celebrate eight seasons of the year instead of only four seasons. In this class, we will learn about the Sámi yearly calendar, seasons, months, and major holidays in Sámi culture that mark the passing of time. We will also have a chance to learn some Northern Sámi language as we craft an eight-seasons calendar wheel to take home.
