Tattoo Your Tools

This class runs Saturday and Sunday, January 4-5, 10 am-5 pm both days.

The art of kolrosing is similar to tattooing in that it is an opportunity for decorative and creative expression. And once you’ve started kolrosing, every smooth wooden surface looks like the perfect canvas for a little more decoration! In this workshop, kolrosers are invited to join Liesl Chatman for this weekend-long kolrosing fest focusing on tool handles. Building on existing kolrosing skills, students will tackle trickier concave and convex surfaces to add lettered labels or decorative designs without changing the smooth surface of the tool handles. Students will leave with personalized tools (such as carving axes, mora knives, or chisels) that will never go missing in a group carving session again!

Over the two days, students can also expect to build on skills from previous beginner-level workshops, including patterning, design, lettering, and finishing.

Suitable for ages 18+ who have previous kolrosing experience, such as a multi-day kolrosing workshop with Liesl Chatman such as the Kolrosing Foundations workshop.

Students should bring their own kolrosing tools and 2-4 tools with smooth wooden handles to kolrose. Appropriate guidance for selecting handles to kolrose will be shared ahead of class.
