Swedish Knit Sleeve Cuffs in the Halland Binge Tradition

Design and knit your sleeve cuffs in this afternoon-long workshop! Learn about the Binge (pronounced “Bing-ah”) knitting tradition from Southwest Sweden’s Halland province. This style, dating back to the 1600s, features colorwork patterns and colors similar to Fair Isle and is often knit with double-thick fabric. In the workshop, students will design and knit their pair of sleeve cuffs using traditional two-color background pattern motifs derived by the instructor from knitting traditions in the Halland province. After a short presentation, fiber artist Wendy Johnson will lead students in how to knit the cuffs on double-pointed needles. Students will need to complete their cuffs at home. The finished sleeve cuffs are perfect for keeping cozy as the days get cold or giving as a gift!
