Swedish Embroidered Cuffs

This class runs Friday-Sunday, February 7-9, 9 am-5 pm each day.

In this three-day course, learn various embellishment techniques with Swedish textile artist Emma Ewadotter! Inspired by traditional folk costume decorative cuffs (handholkar, in Swedish), students will create two of their own fancifully decorated fabric bracelets, which can be designed to wear as matching cuffs or individual pieces. Over the course of the weekend, students will have the chance to try a wide variety of Swedish hand-sewing and embroidery techniques, including how to create a sewn fringe and applique and add decorative elements such as beads and sequins. Throughout the class, Emma will also share the history and context of folk costume decoration and how she has explored embroidery in work as a textile artist in Umeå, Sweden.
