Surface Embroidery of Swedish Huck Weaving

Discover the fabric embellishment technique of Swedish Huck Weaving in this half day class! This method blends surface embroidery with weaving, producing seemingly complex geometric and linear designs on huck fabric, a type of woven material especially suited to this technique. Working alongside fiber artist Wendy Johnson, students will use the provided pattern to embroider a prepared hand towel perfect for everyday use or display. Huck Weaving samples and books will be available for reference during class. Along with your finished project, take home a new skill that can be used to embellish many common household items such as table linens, aprons, pillows, and wall hangings! No prior experience is required. Suitable for ages 16+.

All tools and materials are provided, a $35 materials fee due in class covers the pattern, handouts, one prepared Huck hand towel (approximately 16×24 inches), embroidery needles & thread. If needed, plan to bring magnification (e.g. readers). Students are also invited to bring their own huck woven objects for class viewing, if desired.
