Studies in Norwegian Skinnfell

Join Becky Utecht and Sue Flanders to hear about their recent travels to study advanced skinnfell—a traditional Norwegian folk craft that involves sewing and decorating sheepskin blankets. Recipients of the American Scandinavian Foundation’s Folk Arts Fellowship, Becky and Sue spent a week at Raulands Akademiet in Norway, working with expert Norwegian skinnfell artist Stina Marie Rognes Solheim, and traveled to Gjovik to meet with Skinnfell Master Britt Solheim. They will share the traditions and techniques of skinnfell, including the methods of integrating handweaving with skinnfell. Afterwards, all participants are invited to ASI’s free monthly Makers Night for further conversation.

Registrants may also be interested in the half-day Skinnfell Ornaments workshop in the afternoon before the lecture to try out this textile technique themselves.
