Starting with Slöjd: Weaving in Nature

Starting with Slöjd is a monthly program for early elementary children. Participants explore new tools, materials, and skills that prepare them for a lifelong love of handcraft. These drop-off programs are suitable for students in grades K-2.

Inspired by the exhibition, Karin Larsson: Let the Hand be Seen, students will create a woven textile outside. Instructor Anna Ruhland will introduce students to the art of tapestry weaving. Young makers will have an opportunity to use both handcraft and materials found in nature to create a large colorful piece of art. This class will take place outside – rain or shine. Students must wear clothing appropriate for outdoor play and messy art projects. Please make sure that your young maker brings sun protection, a water bottle, and rain gear (if necessary).
