Starting with Slöjd: Self Portraits Inspired by Salad Hilowle

Starting with Slöjd is a monthly program for early elementary students who want to start crafting! Whether it’s playing with wool, wire, paper, or more, this group will explore new tools, materials, and skills that prepare kids for a lifelong love of slöjd (handcraft). ASI designed these drop-off programs for students in grades K-2.

Inspired by the Salad Hilowle exhibition, create a self-portrait with the help of ASI instructor Anna Ruhland. Students will draw or paint portraits of themselves and surround them with images and words that reflect on identity, memory, and place.
