Starting a Natural Dye Practice at Home

Ready to really get into natural dyeing this summer? Join textile artist Lesley Darling for this one-day overview of setting up a small scale natural dye studio in your own home with creative and economical solutions to common home dyeing quandaries. Whether you are a beginner exploring your options for a new hobby or a developing dyer ready to hone your studio set up, a range of potential projects and equipment options will be covered. Special attention will be given to tools for small dye sessions, the easiest natural dyes to start growing at home, and the best and most inexpensive equipment to invest in.

Meanwhile, we’ll put all these ideas into practice by working with provided example projects as we mordant, make a dye bath, and try out a few fun surface dye techniques, all of which will be easily replicable at home. A $55 materials fee will cover several sample projects and the use of tools for class; please note, this does not include any other take home equipment. Suitable for ages 18+.
