This class runs Fri, August 9–Sun, August 11, 10 am–5 pm each day.

Join instructor Charles Banks as he shares flat plane figure carving techniques in the tradition of Harley Refsal. In this course, students will use just a knife to carve a Nordic-inspired character in this introduction to the simplified world of Flat Plane carving. This experience is open to new carvers as well as carvers with more experience. Students will be introduced to the history, past and present carvers, a multitude of figure carving options, necessary cuts and finishing techniques all culminating in a finished carving or two. This course requires a modest amount of dexterity and hand strength.

Students pay a $10 materials fee per carving blank (a piece of wood ready to carve) and are welcome to bring their own tools or use a set provided by ASI. Suitable for ages 16+.
