Advanced Scandinavian Bowl Carving

Try your hand at carving your own small bowls in the Scandinavian green wood tradition, using fresh cut wood, axes and gouges. Over 8 sessions, Paul Linden will lead students through the process of selecting the raw material, preparing blanks, shaping the bowls with hand tools and a variety of approaches to finishing. Appropriate tool selection, shop set up, sharpening and design principles will also be discussed throughout class. By the end, students will have one or more small bowls, perfect for cereal, ice cream and more.

A $50 materials fee is payable to Paul at the beginning of the class. This class requires considerable hand strength and flexibility and is appropriate for students with previous green wood carving experience who are comfortable using an axe and other hand tools.
