Rosemaling Boreal Forest Plants

This class runs over two days, Saturday, September 27, and Sunday, September 28, 10 am-5 pm both days.

Capture the beauty of the boreal forest in oil paints using the techniques of rosemaling! Both Scandinavia and parts of Northern Minnesota share this striking landscape. Artist Tara Austin will lead students in recreating boreal plant designs reminiscent of botanical illustrations. These will be painted on heavy paper, perfect for framing to display at home or as a gift. Students are also welcome to bring an unfinished wood piece to paint if they prefer. Join discussions on the history, technique, and materials of traditional Norwegian folk painting while creating modern forms using traditional brushstrokes. Bring the forest home with you in this intermediate-level rosemaling class!
