Workshop: Gudbrandsdal-Style Rosemaling

This class runs over two days, Saturday, February 18 and Sunday, February 19, 10 am-5 pm both days.

Learn the specific characteristics of Gudbrandsdal style rosemaling in this two-day class. Moody and elegant, Gudbrandsdal is a Norwegian folk painting style that emulates romantic woodcarvings using a wide range of dark to light tones. Working on a framed wooden mirror, students will use provided patterns to apply Gudbrandsdal style leaves in a traditional color palette. Throughout class, discussions will touch on this style’s history, technique, and materials. This class is suitable for both newer and intermediate level painters looking for an introduction to this rosemaling style. Open to ages 14 and up.

Students have two choices for materials: they may provide their own complete set from the list here and pay $20 for patterns, templates, and sundry class supplies, or may pay $50 to have all materials provided by the instructor, Tara Austin. Please indicate your plans at check out.
